Taylor's Port, 1963

Vintage Port
Grants of St James Label - excellent provenance

Ruby highlights surviving in the colour. Deep, intense, Burgundian richness. At first the spirit is rather overpowering. Then dark chocolate starts appearing, followed by herbal, gum cistus, licorice, cigar box, leathery quality really comes through in the mouth and a slightly medicinal character. Medium length.

This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades.

Tokaji, 1963

Aszu, 6 Puttonyos Monimpex - Azzu (Half litre, 50cl)

Hungary’s most famous dessert wine is Tokaji the legendary sweet elixir. It can only be spoken in the superlative about this wine, as it is a medicine, a real nectar. The name Tokaji (which is of Protected Designation of Origin) is used for labeling wines from this wine district. The location of the region has a unique climate, beneficial to this particular viniculture, due to the protection of the nearby mountains, long warm autumns and mists that come in from the River Bodrog, creating perfect conditions for noble rot. Creating the botrytised ('aszú') grapes for which the region is famous. A wonderful sweet wine from this renowned producer.

Adams Vintage Port, 1963

Vintage Port

"Very advanced, pale and tawny in colour and in nature but still with lovely citrus and marmalade flavours all through the palate and aftertaste. Quite delicious." Review on the Port Forum

Adams was an importer who brought port into the UK in pipes and bottled it under their own brand. Adams have long since passed into history leaving a small amount of very fine vintage port.
